To make a chocolate gateau, you will need ingredients such as flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, eggs, butter, and chocolate. Here is a basic recipe for a chocolate gateau:


Ingredients:


1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 large eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup hot water

8 oz dark chocolate

1 cup heavy cream



Instructions:


Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and vegetable oil.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

Gradually pour in the hot water, mixing until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely in the pan.

To make the ganache, melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted and smooth.

In a separate saucepan, heat the cream until it starts to steam. Remove from heat and stir in the melted chocolate until well combined.

Let the ganache cool and thicken slightly before using.

Once the cake is cool, spread a layer of ganache on top of one of the cakes.

Place the other cake on top of the ganache layer, and then spread more ganache over the top and sides of the cake.

Decorate with chocolate shavings or other toppings as desired.

Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
